Next locomotive is WAM 2. It was similar looking compared to WAM1, but while WAM 1 was imported from Europe, WAM 2 was Japanese. It was built by a consortium of Mitsubishi, Hitachi and Toshiba (The Japanese Group, as attested by a plaque fixed on their sides) as IR probably wanted a second opinion to the Europeans. There production was between 1959 to 1961, 36 units were produced and imported from Japan. Their top speed was 112 kmph. Like the WAM1 they were also used around the ER (Eastern Railway)-SER (South Eastern Railway)-NER (North Eastern Railway)-NR (Northern Railway) circuit as it was the first AC electrified area and hauled ordinary passenger trains and freights only.
