Hiccups or Why we begin to hiccup?

Sometimes you begin to hiccup and they do not seem to stop, no matter how much you try. But by the way, what are hiccups? Why do they happen? Let's discuss. Hiccups are short, sharp & very sudden breaths of air which happen when our breathing muscles jerk, making us gasp. HIC!!! HIC!!!

There is a diaphragm located between the chest and the stomach. Sometimes, due to the formation of gas or increase of acidity in the stomach, the diaphragm gets irritated and a result contracts suddenly. In such a situation, the air passing through the lungs experiences obstruction and makes a peculiar sound.

What's its purpose? Its purpose is to expel gas and undesirable food material out of the stomach so that respiration remains unobstructed!

Now next time you hiccup try these ways to stop a hiccup. (1) Drink a glass of cold water because the cold water stops the irritation in the diaphragm. (2) Holding breath for a small time can also stop hiccups. If still it doesn't stops, consult a physician!
